Inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Steve Earle and Leonard Cohen, and raised in rural Victoria, roots and alt-country singer/songwriter, Harry Hookey first played the guitar at the age of 15 when his father bought home instruments for he and his three brothers.

With musical passion ignited, Harry and his brothers began performing as the Hookey Family Band playing an eclectic mix of covers in pubs throughout Gippsland.

Whilst studying law at the University of Melbourne, Harry explored his talents as a solo musician, busking in Melbourne streets and entering and winning competitions with punk rock band, The Bystanders, an outfit he formed with 6 other law students.

In 2010 Harry entered the heats of Telstra Road to Discovery in Tasmania to see, as he puts it, ‘if I could cut it on a professional stage.‘ He not only proved himself, he won the prestigious competition in early 2011.

Armed with a new boost of confidence to progress to the next level with his song-writing talent, Harry headed into the studio with award winning producer Matt Fell to record his first 6 track EP, “Old Noise” featuring the single ‘Don’t You Ever Treat Me Like a Fool, ‘ and the hauntingly beautiful ‘Audrey’s Song.’

Fast becoming a name on the live scene, Harry has showcased his music at the Americana festival in Nashville TN, and performed with artists as diverse as Leo Sayer, Tim Rogers, Mick Thomas, Doc Neeson and Kasey Chambers.

Harry has also undertaken much co-writing. He has written with artists such as Karl Broadie, Kim Richey, Mick Thomas and Rafe Van Hoy.

So far, 2012 has seen him play to sold out crowds in Tamworth, a residency at St Kilda’s Veludo Bar and a spot on the Oz Artist Stage at CMC Rocks the Hunter.

2012 will continue to be busy for Harry as he gears up to record an album of solo material later on in the year.

Ash Grunwald put together his first album, Introducing …, leaning heavily on traditional blues but it was his second album I Don’t Believe released in April of 2004, that would change his state of play. It was his first album – of many to come – to graft technology onto the deeply rooted foliage of the Delta swamp.

On the back of his increasingly explosive and unique shows, he released a searing live album Live At The Corner; “When I play live, it has that four on the floor, modern pulse that we get from electronic dance music,” he says. His next studio album in 2007, Give Signs, was even more adventurous, and he took his energetic live show to venues such as London’s renowned The Borderline and Shepherds Bush Empire, and opened for acts as diverse a James Brown, Bo Diddley, Keith Urban, Jack Johnson, Missy Higgins & Pete Muray.

In 2008, after collaborating at a song writing workshop with producer Countbounce (Urthboy, TZU), he and Grunwald teamed up to deliver an album of thumping beats and grooves mixed in with blues jams. The result, Fish Out Of Water, was a genre defying record. Although Grunwald had regularly placed beats in his music, it was often simply a mash-up of DIY electronic beats with his blues tracks placed on top. “I wanted to smash the two together really hard, so that you couldn’t tell which side started it first,” Countbounce says. “More of a soul hip-hop approach. The drums would be sampled. And the feel of a hip-hop rhythm section with his guitars on top.”

Blistering live sets on the festival circuit throughout Australia, Japan, Canada, America, Europe and the UK, have had critics and fans raving about his unique blend of roots, blues, beats and a whole lotta groove for now, more than a decade. Nominated five times for Australia’s ARIA Awards, and a swag of award wins including MBAS Blues Performer of the Year 2003 and the AIR Best Independent Blues and Roots Album, and in 2009, taking out a prestigious APRA songwriting award for Blues & Roots Song of the Year.

His album of 2010, Hot Mama Vibes, was nominated for Best Blues & Roots album by both the Australian Record Industry Association and Australian Independent Record Label Association, and after a sold out national Australian tour, he capped off 2010 supporting Jack Johnson’s Australian tour. His first single from the album, ‘Walking’ received significant radio airplay, and was prominently featured in the Hollywood blockbuster, ‘Limitless’ starring Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper.

Last year saw the release of Ash’s most recent album and most internal to date “Trouble’s Door”.

A native of Brisbane, singer/songwriter Shane Nicholson first gained public attention as the lead singer/guitarist for the rock band Pretty Violet Stain in the late 1990’s. After winning the JJJ Unearthed competition, they released their debut album Parachutes and Gravity in 2000. In 2003 Ultimately, Shane released his debut solo album It’s A Movie, followed by Faith & Science in 2006 – both albums receiving wide critical acclaim and a good measure of commercial success following extensive touring in both Australia and the USA.

After marrying country music queen Kasey Chambers, the pair went on to record the highly acclaimed #1 album Rattlin Bones in 2008, winning Best Country album at the ARIA’s in 2008 and scoring 5 Golden Guitars in 2009 with the album achieving platinum + sales.

His current solo album “Bad Machines” has been recently nominated for an ARIA and 6 x Golden Guitars to further establish Shane as one of Australia’s most prolific and respected singer/songwriters. In addition to writing, producing and playing on his own albums, Shane has also produced albums for a range of other artists including Angie Hart, Catherine Britt, Lou Bradley, Steve Grady and Sarah Humphreys. In the past, music critics have been unanimous in their praise, many drawing on names such as Bruce Springsteen and Steve Earle in an attempt to describe the depth of Shane’s songs and the extent of his honest and emotional vocal delivery. However in recent times there is no doubt at all that Shane has created a unique musical place for himself

There’s much more to Bill Chambers than just being Kasey’s Dad. The patriarch of the Chambers clan is considered by some to be Australia’s premier alt-country guitarist. He can be a master of delicate picking on Dobro or Lap Steel and a demon on Slide. Along with producing albums for the likes of Catherine Britt, Audrey Auld, Bec Willis (co-produced with Kasey) and the Dead Ringer Band, Bill has still found time to write most of the songs on his albums – ‘Sleeping With the Blues,’ ‘Frozen Ground’ and his most recent ‘Drifting South’.

“What I love the best is to get out on the road and perform the songs. I still play in Kasey’s band when she’s on the road and the gigs take us all over the world. That’s where I get many of the stories for my songs,” says Bill. Most recently Bill recorded his first DVD ‘Live At The Pub Tamworth,’ reliving the great atmosphere that his Tamworth sessions have become famous for. Showcasing Bill’s best original songs, his large collection of guitars and guest appearances by the likes of Shane Nicholson, Kevin Bennett and Kasey Chambers. Richard Jinman from The Sydney Magazine describes Bill’s music as “reminiscent of Daniel Lanois early spacious work, all elongated guitar phrases, shuffling drums and ambient rumbling, the combined effect is as seductive as hell.”

Music has been a way of life for singer/songwriter musician Ashleigh Dallas. Hailing from Tamworth NSW, she grew up on a healthy diet of Hank Williams, Slim Dusty and Johnny Cash. Some of Ash’s earliest memories are of her grandfather and profile country music singer/songwriter Rex Dallas. “We used to go to Pop’s gigs all the time. My Dad played guitar in his band along with my three uncles.” It’s no surprise that Ashleigh followed the family into music and asked to learn the fiddle at the age of 2! Older brother Lindsay plays bass and was part of Tamworth family band The Baileys for 8 years. Playing regular gigs around Tamworth with her Dad and brother, Ash scored her first big break, when Kasey Chambers saw her perform and asked her to join her band for the ‘Little Bird Tour’ as fiddle & mandolin player and singing harmonies. Embarking on her first major tour, it wasn’t long before Ashleigh began opening up the show alongside Bill Chambers in venues all over Australia. Citing music luminaries such as Alison Krauss, Buddy & Julie Miller and Steve Earle as some of her biggest influences, Ash is in the midst of recording her first solo album due to be released sometime in 2012.
